Integrity, Passion, and Leadership
Residing in Yellowknife for over 12 years, I've actively strived to understand the distinct challenges our local communities encounter in this territory . My academic background is in political science, and I expanded my education abroad, attending one of the world's top 50 universities, for political science and international relations. This educational journey has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to appreciate the crucial relationship between governance and bureaucracy.
During my brief professional tenure, I worked in an administration for the Northwest Territories Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists. As a mother of three children, a majority of whom are neurodiverse, I deeply value and understand importance of supporting families. The last decade or so, I have played a supportive role throughout my husband's apprenticeship, his extensive eight-year career in the mining industry, and in establishing a small business that has seen substantial growth in the past year. The decision to step away from the labor market and become the bedrock for my family, as well as the primary educator for my children, is a choice I feel fortunate to have been able to make.
Additionally, my spouse and I have become ardent supporters of Habitat for Humanity in recent years. He has consistently contributed to local builds, and we had planned to participate in bi-annual overseas builds through Global Village, in which we had completed one overseas build together, just before the pandemic. I've also dedicated the past 18 months to volunteering as the Outreach Coordinator for a community organization, as well as being in a working group for a housing build.
These experiences collectively provide me with a unique perspective on the challenges facing our Northern economy and residents, both in the present and the future, and I am committed to working with all stakeholders to make positive change in our community.
